If you have lost your pet browse the list of Lost and Found animals or call the Animal Shelter at 631-451-6950. You must still come to the Shelter to identify your pet - shelter workers cannot identify your pet, only you can do that. If the animal has been injured, there may be an outstanding bill, which must be paid prior to the animal being redeemed from the Shelter.
If your pet is licensed, bring proof of licensing and rabies when you come to redeem it. Proof of current rabies is a valid rabies paper certificate, not the tag.
Finding Strays
If you find a stray dog during the hours the shelter is open, you can call the adoption center for an animal control officer to come pick up the pet, or you can bring the dog to the shelter yourself.
If the animal is found after the shelter is closed and there isn't an officer on duty at 631-451-6161, you can bring the dog to Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists at 3250 Veterans Memorial Highway, Bohemia, NY 11716.
You can also call code enforcement at 631-451-6162 or if it a medical emergency with the dog, you can call 911.
