Transient Docking Rules

  1. Boat owners applying for a docking space permit claiming residency or taxpayer status of Brookhaven Town must show 2 forms of identification:
    • Valid original boat registration or Coast Guard documentation papers and,
    • Valid original driver’s license or tax bill, (name and address on A and B must match) and mailing address must be provided. P.O. Box is not acceptable.
  2.  A permit granted by the Town shall not be assigned or transferred. Persons holding a permit may not sublease the space assigned to the holder of such permit or allow any other person to dock, moor or otherwise use such space, and the same may be used only by the boat for which the permit is issued. (§10-29 K) The Town reserves the right to resell/oversell slips at any time, without recourse. Non-residents may be limited or denied a slip.
    • Holders of transient daily permits may remove their boat at any time and return at any time prior to expiration of the permit and continue to be located in said slip or berth until said expiration date. (§10-29E 7a) If a permit holder leaves and returns as said, the permit holder may secure said slip or berth with one line. The line shall be from piling to dock. Lines from piling to piling are prohibited.
  3. Fees are due in advance. Checkout time - 10 a.m. Unpaid Fees apply after 10 a.m. Unpaid Fee is charged on a per foot / day basis, $4 per foot-resident, $6 per foot ($4 per foot Great Gun)-non-resident, electric if applicable, plus daily surcharge. Checks returned uncollected result in issuance of Unpaid Fee.
  4. Electrical connection to boat only. No other devices are permitted. Unpaid electric use will result in an Unpaid Fee plus surcharge, or disconnection.
  5. Quiet hours must be maintained between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Hawking, soliciting, posting signs, or distribution of advertising is prohibited.
  6. Open alcohol, swimming, bathing, wading, water skiing, camping, tents or structures of any kind are prohibited at all Town Marinas.
  7. Boats shall operate at a speed no greater than 4 miles per hour in the marina. (No wake)
  8. Permit holders shall not allow other boats to moor or tie up to their boat. (No rafting)
  9. The release or discharge of treated or untreated sanitary waste is a Federal offense and prohibited within the marina.
  10. Barbecue only in designated areas off docks or decks. No barbecuing on boat. Fires (§10-12) of any type, for any purpose, and devices used to support or maintain fires, are prohibited in all Town marinas. Pyrotechnics are prohibited in all Town Marinas.
  11. Main walkways in the marina from edge to edge must be kept free of any and all objects and obstacles.
  12. Slip assignment is at the discretion of the Commissioner of Parks or designee and may deny without recourse or revoke provided in §10-29M, a permit to any boater that has unpaid fees, is disruptive, makes unauthorized slip changes, violates these rules, or due to boat size cannot be accommodated.
  13. Acceptance of a permit creates a presumption the permit holder has read Chapter 10, Section 29, (Town Marinas) of the Brookhaven Town Code, and the rules set forth herein, and agrees to abide thereby. Any violators will be banned from all Town Marinas or towed at owner expense. §10-29G.
