Our very popular Special Recreation program has been offering children and adults with special needs recreational activities for over 30 years. Special Recreation Programs for Adults
These programs are for young adults and adults with special needs who reside in the Town of Brookhaven. No transportation is available for these programs. Flyers will be sent out prior to each event. The programs that are offered include, but are not limited to:
- Monday Night Swim at Brookhaven Aquatic Center, Mastic
- Special Recreation Bowling League (Saturdays)
- Zumba

Special Recreation Summer Program
The Special Recreation Summer Program is offered to special needs children ages 5 (must have completed kindergarten) to 11. The child must be enrolled full-time in a self-contained Special Education class and reside in the Town of Brookhaven. A copy of the child’s current IEP is required. Activities for this program include games, art, and crafts, and swimming every day. Camp takes place Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to Noon. at the Harold Malkmes Wildlife Education and Ecology Center on Buckley Road, Holtsville. The Town of Brookhaven does not provide transportation. The cost of the camp is $85 and registration is limited. All are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with no exceptions.
