The Mount Sinai Marine Environmental Stewardship Center (MESC) is located in Mount Sinai, within the Town's Beach / Marina complex at Cedar Beach. The mission of the MESC is to provide residents with a place to enjoy and experience the natural environment and to gain an understanding in the role man plays in its protection and conservation. The MSRC has living displays that include aquariums and an outdoor touch tank; interactive interior displays using touch screen monitors, and a submarine room where touch screen computers give you an animated view of the life in the Long Island Sound. A 700-foot long boardwalk allows you to take a walk within the dune system and interpretative signs along the way introduce you to the plants that make this a critical habitat. Groups may request a tour from our Environmental Educator, Nicole by calling her at 631-451-6639.
Cedar Beach offers programs the whole family can explore and learn together including guided tours. Our walking tours cover topics including ecology, plants, animals, and natural history of the sound. Residents can explore our submarine room, discover marine animals in our touch tanks, make crafts, participate in nature hikes, and much more.
If you have a school class, scouting organization or other community group interested in participating in environmental education, please contact the Town of Brookhaven Division of Environmental Protection at 631-451-6455.
