Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Division within the Public Safety Department is the uniformed security force for the Town of Brookhaven. The division is charged with the security of all Town of Brookhaven facilities including parks and marinas and the various complaints received by the general public which are violations of the Town Code (such as barking dogs and noise complaints). Other responsibilities consist of:

  • ATV activity
  • Patrol activities
  • Special patrol and surveillance when necessary and an association with the Pine Barrens Law Enforcement Council to enforce illegal dumping
  • Stationery security posts

Code Enforcement officers also enforce parking regulations within the Town of Brookhaven with particular emphasis on Fire Zone and Handicap parking violations. Traffic control for special events within the town, such as parades and fireworks displays, is a service provided upon request.

Radio & Communication Center

The Radio and Communication Center, which operates on a 24 hour, 7 day per week basis, has two modern radio frequencies, mobile portable radios for patrol activities and handles thousands of dispatched calls per year for complaints received by the general public. Additionally, the Communication/Command Center is responsible for the Security Camera System which monitors all installed cameras within the town. It also serves as the information/contact center for the town after working hours and on weekends.

Cooperative Work

Code Enforcement integrates communication between all town departments, law enforcement and marine agencies, as well as outside governmental agencies. Working in conjunction with local law enforcement, the Code Enforcement Division handles all vehicular impounds deemed to be road hazards, abandoned and unregistered vehicles and 511 V&T violations on the roadways within the boundaries of the Town of Brookhaven.
