Yard Waste

The Town of Brookhaven provides 21 yard waste collections each year. Yard waste must be at the curb on Sunday nights preceding a highlighted collection week according to the recycling schedule. Your carter will make one pass through each area during the week, Monday through Saturday. There is a limit of 50 yard waste items per week.

Acceptable Materials
How to Prepare Materials
Brush, Twigs, Small Branches (up to 6” diameter), Wood Chips, Hedge Clippings, Holiday Trees (No bagged, artificial or decorated trees)
• Bundle, bag or place in 32 gallon garbage can, lids removed, nothing protruding above the rim of 32 gallon pail
 • Bundles must be securely tied 
 • Bundles must be no larger than 4’x2’x2’ 
 • 50 lb. limit per item 
 • Holiday trees over 6’ must be cut in half 
 • No more than 50 items per week 
 • Place at curb, separate from garbage, on Sunday nights preceding yard waste weeks.

Leaves, Acorns, Weeds, Hay Mulch, Thatch, Pine Cones/Needles, Non-woody Plants


• Must be bagged; 50 lb. limit per bag 
 • No more than 50 bags per week 
 • Place at curb, separate from garbage, on Sunday nights preceding yard waste weeks. 
 • Can be brought to the Manorville Compost Site for free. (loose or paper bags only)

Brush and/or Leaves: These items can be brought to the Landfill at no fee. Materials must be brought in non-commercial, non-altered, single-axle cars with single-axle trailers, pick-ups, or vans.

Not Acceptable for Yard Waste Collection:

  • Large branches (over 6” diameter), logs or stumps
  • Brush protruding above the rim of a 32 gal. container
  • Loose brush or leaves, dirt, sand & grass
