Yard Waste

The Town of Brookhaven has 20 curbside yard waste pick-up weeks designated each year. View our yard waste schedule (PDF). The carter will make only one pass through each area during the week, Monday through Saturday. No grass clippings.

Acceptable MaterialsHow to Prepare Materials
Brush, Twigs, Small Branches (up to 6 inch diameter), Wood Chips, Hedge Clippings, Holiday Trees  (No bagged, artificial or decorated trees)
  • Bundle, bag or place in 32 gallon garbage can, lids removed
  • Bundles must be securely tied
  • Bundles must be no larger than 4' x 2' x 2'
  • 50 pound limit per item
  • Holiday trees over 6 feet must be cut in half
  • No more than 50 items per week
  • Place at curb, separate from garbage, on Sunday nights preceding yard waste weeks.
Leaves, Acorns, Weeds, Hay Mulch, Thatch, Pine Cones/Needles, Non-woody Plants
  • Must be bagged; 50 pound limit per bag
  • No more than 50 bags per week
  • Place at curb, separate from garbage, on Sunday nights preceding yard waste weeks.
  • Can be brought to the Manorville Compost Site for free (loose or paper bags only).

Brush or Leaves

These items can be brought to the Landfill at no fee. Materials must be brought in non-commercial cars with single-axle trailers, pick-ups, or vans.

Not Acceptable for Yard Waste Collection

  • Brush protruding above the rim of a 32 gallon container
  • Large branches (over 6 inch diameter), logs or stumps
  • Loose brush or leaves, dirt, sand and grass

No Logs, Large Branches, or Trees

These items can be brought to the Landfill at no fee. Materials must be brought in non-commercial cars with single-axle trailers, pick-ups, or vans. You must use your personal pick-up, van or car.

No Grass Clippings

Under the Town’s “Don’t Bag It” policy, grass clippings are never collected. To dispose of bagged grass, please bring to the Manorville Compost Facility during their hours of operation for free.
