Agriculture in Brookhaven

Brookhaven Town is home to approximately 4,200 acres of farmland that supports a wide diversity of agricultural enterprises producing:

  • Animal Products
  • Bedding Plants
  • Hops
  • Nursery Stock
  • Shellfish
  • Sod
  • Vegetables

More than 1,700 acres has been preserved for agricultural uses through the purchase of development rights by Suffolk County and the Town. Agriculture contributes to the local economy and quality of life and so the continued viability and enhancement of farming is important.

Board Responsibilities

The Agricultural Advisory Board advises the Town on policy issues and programs affecting the farming community and, under the direction of Supervisor Romaine, has also been instrumental in bringing the first Farmers Market to Brookhaven Town Hall.
