Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich was first elected to the Brookhaven Town Council in March 2021. A long-time civic and community leader with deep roots in the area, he served on the Three Village Board of Education for 14 years and led the Three Village Civic Association for 7 years. Jonathan also served on the executive boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Suffolk County and the North Shore Montessori School. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, he mobilized a community-wide effort to deliver free groceries to homebound and at-risk neighbors.
Guided by a steadfast commitment to his community, Jonathan is determined to improve the quality of life for residents of the 1st Council District. Over the years, Jonathan has worked with residents from all walks of life and has developed an extensive network of relationships that helps provide him a unique perspective to effectively see, understand, and respond to the diverse concerns of the district’s stakeholders.
After graduation from SUNY Albany, Jonathan started his first business: a swimming pool service company. After operating for more than 15 years, he sold the business and launched a career as a serial entrepreneur. Since then he has started or invested in numerous ventures, including real estate investment, import and export, a school supply e-commerce website, and a biotechnology firm. He also serves as a legal and technical consultant in swimming pool-related litigation. The Councilmember believes that small businesses are vital to creating a sense of place in a community, and although he is proud to attend red ribbon cuttings to welcome new businesses to the area, the real work for him is cutting red tape so they can grow and thrive.
