Animal Food Pantry

Our food pantry is a community resource designed to assist and keep struggling families, such as those with disabilities, and their pets together by providing pet food to qualifying applicants living in the Town of Brookhaven. The program has given temporary assistance to many families which in turn has allowed them to stay together. Call 631-451-6950 to learn more or contact the Animal Shelter online.

Counseling Services

The Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau has New York State (NYS) Licensed Clinical Social Workers that provide free counseling services for all Town residents between the ages of 12 to 21. Visit our couseling services page to learn more or call 631-451-8011 for additional information.

Handicap Ramps / Lifts

The Town of Brookhaven Residential Rehabilitation Program provides a 0% interest deferred loan to any income eligible homeowner that is in need of a handicap ramp or handicap lift to enhance access to their home. Visit our handicap ramps / lifts page or call 631-451-6600 to learn more.

Home Repairs

The Town of Brookhaven Residential Rehabilitation Program provides repairs to homes in the Town for homeowners. Repairs can be made on any part of the home from the chimney to the sanitary system. Visit our home repairs page or call 631-451-6600 to learn more.

Housing

Brookhaven residents can check to see if their residence has a rental permit using our online system. If there is not a rental permit, you may report this violation to the Town. 

Medical Equipment Assistance

The Town "Lending Closet" lends medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, commodes, canes and shower chairs at no cost to Town of Brookhaven residents. Supplies are limited and distributed on a first-come first-served basis. Donations are accepted and greatly appreciated. Visit our "Lending Closet" page to learn more.

Parking Information

Parking Permit for Persons with Disabilities

If you are a resident of the Town of Brookhaven with a qualifying disability as defined by New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, you are eligible for a parking permit for persons with disabilities from the Brookhaven Town Clerk’s Office. 

Parking Stickers for Individuals with Disabilities who Don't Drive

Placards for parking at Town locations are available at the Parks and Recreation office for individuals with disabilities who do not drive. Please call 631-451-6101 for more information.

Recreation

  • Recreation programs for young adults and adults with special needs who reside in the Town of Brookhaven
    • Some examples of our events include as swimming, bowling, dancing, bingo, movie events and Zumba
  • Wheelchair accessible activities are offered by the Town's Parks Department
    • Some examples include basketball, tennis, football, bowling, weight lifting and swimming

Transportation

The Jitney Transportation Program is a shared ride, curb to curb service provided within the Town of Brookhaven to our Senior Citizens (over 60) and Disabled residents who have no other means of transportation. Suffolk County Accessible Transportation (SCAT) provides curb-to-curb transportation for people with disabilities and mobility impairments and will pick you up and drop you off between any two points in Suffolk County. Visit the Suffolk County Accessible Transportation (SCAT) page to learn more.
