On October 11, approximately 300 people attended the Town of Brookhaven’s Sixth Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration hosted by Brookhaven’s Hispanic Advisory Board. Read Press Release - View Photos
During the celebration of Hispanic culture, 69 high school seniors from 11 school districts throughout Brookhaven were honored for achieving a grade point average of 95 or higher.
Also honored during the celebration were keynote speaker New York City Police Department Officer and community volunteer Luiggi Bunay Carcelen, and honorees Monica Leo, Nancy Silverio, Ivan Suarez, Hilda Gonzales, Elma Lugo, the Madres Latinas Amigas and Lindsay Davis.

In 2013, Supervisor Romaine established the first Hispanic Advisory Board in the Town of Brookhaven to help improve cultural understanding between the Hispanic community, civic and business leaders, Brookhaven government, and Town residents. The Hispanic Advisory Board serves as a sounding board to the Town Board and provides viable recommendations on policies that advance the social and economic well-being of His panics and all citizens in the Town of Brookhaven.
