Farmingville, NY –  On December 6, Councilwoman Jane Bonner (left) visited Mount Sinai High School to join SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and Holiday Magic for their 20th year as a team devoted to making the holidays magical for children across Suffolk County. Holiday Magic is a non-profit organization that dedicates itself to making the holidays special for less fortunate children and their families.

Councilwoman Bonner said, “The holidays can be a tough time for families in need, but we can always count on the generosity of Brookhaven residents to make the season bright. I thank the student volunteers at Mount Sinai High School, SADD and Holiday Magic for the work they do to put smiles on the faces of so many children.”

This year, the organization received gift requests from 13,000 children on Long Island. On November 30th, with 39 Santa lists in hand and $3000 in cash from Holiday Magic, the SADD students descended on Walmart and the Smith Haven Mall in search of the requested gifts. SADD’s goal is to show children that the community cares, hopefully preventing them from making “destructive decisions.” This year, SADD presented Holiday Magic with a check for $4485 from the proceeds of the 2018 Turkey Trot plus a generous donation from Altice for $1250.
