Farmingville, NY – On December 2, Councilman Michael Loguercio (right) honored Boy Scout Kieran M. Monaghan (left) from Troop 433 during the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony held at Middle Island Fire Department headquarters. Kieran is a student at Longwood High School.
Kieran’s Eagle Scout project involved the rehabilitation of a walkover bridge between Lake Ronkonkoma County Park and an adjacent derelict property that was acquired by the County. The bridge serves as a gateway between the existing and the soon to be transformed park. The 12’ by 20’ concrete bridge was recoated in composite lumber and decorative railings, along with paint on its underside.
Councilman Loguercio said, “I am honored to recognize Kieran on his achievement to Eagle Scout. He certainly is a part of an elite group of young men that attain this honor. We all thank him for the time and dedication it took to get to this level. It certainly makes us proud knowing that his efforts with the Boy Scouts have certainly had a positive impact on not only his peers, but his whole community.”
Since the award was presented in 1912, no more than four percent of all Scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men.
