Town’s first demolition of the new year follows 67 demolitions in 2018
Farmingville, NY – On January 2, Councilman Dan Panico (left) and Supervisor Ed Romaine (right) were on-hand for the Town’s first “zombie house” demolition of 2019. The house, located on environmentally sensitive wetlands at 9 Montauk Drive in Mastic Beach, was vacant for many years and had become a dilapidated and dangerous eyesore in the neighborhood. The land was cleared of all debris and will be preserved as open space by the Town. In 2018, the Town demolished 67 vacant and abandoned houses covering all Council Districts.
Supervisor Romaine said, “The quality of life suffers in a neighborhood when people have to live near a house like this one. We will continue to crack down on property owners who do not maintain their vacant houses and we will demolish them if necessary, especially those that are on wetlands. Thanks to the work of our Law Department, we continue to make great progress in our effort to clean up the Town.”
Councilman Panico said, “The people of Mastic Beach know the difference between rhetoric and results. They know the difference between pandering and producing. This work will continue until all such homes are down.”
