Farmingville, NY – “Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan to cut $1.8 million in aid for Brookhaven taxpayers is unconscionable. This will have an immediate and serious impact on Town services and could result in a tax increase by the Governor. Long Island taxpayers have not been blindsided with a state tax increase like this since the unfair MTA tax. This is unacceptable,” said Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine, the Town’s Chief Fiscal Officer.
“Brookhaven Town has a strong financial record, having never pierced the state tax cap despite increasing unfunded state mandates and a freeze on state aid for the past 12 years. This cut affects every town in Suffolk and Nassau Counties. It’s as if the Governor has decided to aim a dagger at the heart of every municipality on Long Island. This proposal appears to be a policy of robbing the residents of Brookhaven to pay for programs in New York City. We urge our representatives in the State Assembly and Senate to protect the taxpayers of Long Island and restore this funding for critical local services.”
