Farmingville, NY – Recently, Councilwoman Valerie M. Cartright attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Steven Fontana from Boy Scout Troop 377 in East Setauket. The event was held at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony brook. For his Eagle Scout project, Steven replaced damaged and broken boards on an outside deck area, cleaned the deck area, and refinished the entire deck at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook. He purchased an outdoor clock and outdoor thermometer which were mounted so that the veterans could view them easily from the deck. Through his successful fund-raiser, Steven also purchased two bird feeders with mounting hardware and 90 lbs. of wild bird seed. The balance of the money that he raised was donated to the veterans home. Pictured left to right are Councilwoman Cartright, Steven Fontana and Assemblyman Steve Englebright.
"We commend Eagle Scout Fontana for his service to support our veterans. His project will provide the Long Island State Veterans Home residents with an improved outdoor recreation area,” stated Councilwoman Cartright. “We are proud of his accomplishments, his commitment and service to the community. Mr. Fontana serves as a role model to younger scouts and aspiring Eagle Scouts."
Since the award was presented in 1912, no more than four percent of all Scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men.
