Supervisor Romaine Reminds Veterans Property Tax Exemption Deadline is March 1

Farmingville, NY –  Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine has announced that veterans residing in the Town of Brookhaven, may be entitled to a Veterans Property Tax Exemption. The deadline to apply for a is March 1. Filing requirements include:

•The veteran must have served full-time active duty
•Home must be the veteran’s primary residence
•The veteran or spouse can only claim a Veterans Property Tax Exemption on one property
•A letter of transfer is required when transferring from any other residence within the State of New York

“There are thousands of veterans living in Brookhaven Town who have selflessly and courageously served our country,” Supervisor Romaine said. “Many of them may not be aware that they are entitled to a Veterans Exemption on their property taxes. I encourage these veterans to contact our Assessors Office to see if they qualify.”
