Farmingville, NY – Supervisor Ed Romaine has announced that the Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau will be holding workshops for parents and guardians at Town Hall, located at 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville. The workshops being offered are:
Coping with an Anxious Adolescent on Friday, March 15 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This workshop will discuss what anxiety is and what parents and guardians can do to help their children manage their anxiety.
Dealing with an Angry Adolescent on Friday, March 22 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This workshop focuses on helping parents and guardians to understand why their teen is angry and the steps that can be taken to ease stress and chaos at home.
Inside the World of Vaping on Friday, March 29 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This workshop will discuss the facts and dangers of vaping and e-cigarettes.
Open Discussion and Parent Networking on Friday, April 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is an open support group for parents and guardians to discuss any current problems or struggles they may be having with their teen.
“These workshops are designed to help parents and guardians effectively communicate with their children as they are going through difficult and transitional times in their lives,” said Supervisor Ed Romaine. “I encourage parents and guardians to call the Youth Bureau and register for these very useful workshops.”
Councilman Michael Loguercio, Town Board Liaison to the Youth Bureau, said, “As children grow older, it is often the case that they may not want to communicate with adults about what they are going through. This can be frustrating for everyone involved. These workshops will provide a means to open up the communication process and also discuss how to constructively deal with the dangers of vaping”
