Farmingville, NY – Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilman Michael Loguercio have announced that the Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau will be holding an ABC’s of Bullying Program that will benefit both parents and students. The program is for students seven-years-old and up and will take place on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Brookhaven Town Hall, located at 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville.
The instructor for the program will be author, martial arts expert and 2019 Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Figgiani. The program will focus on:
* Stranger Danger
* Developing Anti-bullying Strategies
* Becoming a Leader and Not a Follower
* Tips for Parents to Develop Confidence in Their Children
* Safety Tips for Students Preparing to Leave for College
“This program is empowering for both parents and students because it focuses on effective communication,” Supervisor Ed Romaine said. “The instructor will act out different bullying scenarios with those who attend the event, so participants will understand how to directly apply antibullying strategies.”
Councilman Michael Loguercio, Town Board Liaison to the Youth Bureau, said, “Bullying is a big issue that both students and parents struggle with. This program provides a means to address the issue as a family and come to an understanding of how to utilize techniques and build the confidence that will deflect bullying in a non-violent manner.”
