[ARCHIVED] Town Will Open Senior Nutrition Program at Moriches Bay Recreation Center on April 2

Farmingville, NY –  Supervisor Ed Romaine has announced the Town of Brookhaven will be offering a Senior Nutrition Program at the newly established Moriches Bay Recreation Center, located at 313 Frowein Road in Center Moriches. The program, which begins on Tuesday, April 2, provides seniors with a nutritious lunch in a friendly and social atmosphere. Residents who participate in the program will have the opportunity to participate in a wide-range of activities.

The Nutrition Program at the Moriches Bay Recreation Center will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Transportation to the program will be provided, upon availability, to residents living in Moriches, Center Moriches, East Moriches, Manorville and residents living in the Brookhaven Town portion of Eastport.

Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “The Senior Nutrition Program provides an opportunity to enjoy a healthy and delicious lunch while simultaneously staying active within your community. I encourage Brookhaven residents to find out more about this program through the Town’s Senior Citizens Division.” While serving as a County Legislator in 1986, Supervisor Romaine was instrumental in the establishment of the County-wide Nutrition Program.

The Town currently operates two Senior Nutrition Programs at two separate locations. The North Shore Nutrition Program is located within the Rose Caracappa Senior Center at 739 Route 25A in Mount Sinai. For more information about this program, please call 631-476-6446. The Bay Area Nutrition Center is located within the Mastic Recreation Center at 15 Herkimer Street in Mastic. For more information about this program, please call 631-281-7679. Both programs are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Town of Brookhaven Nutrition Program funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Suffolk County Office for the Aging, through the New York State Office for the Aging. A voluntary $2.00 contribution is suggested for lunch.
