[ARCHIVED] Town Demolishes Two Zombie Houses in Mastic Beach as Part of Panico’s Quality of Life In

137 Commack Road MB Demolition

Farmingville, NY –  On March 20, Councilman Dan Panico (pictured) was on-hand for the demolition of two “Zombie Houses” in Mastic Beach at 137 Commack Road (left) and 110 Beaver Drive (right). The houses were dangerous nuisances in the neighborhood for many years and the source of resident complaints. The Beaver Drive house had sustained major damage from a recent fire. They were both demolished in accordance with Chapter 73 of the Town Code, providing a “fast track” to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures. The cost of demolition and debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner, and the Town places a lien on the property that is then placed on the tax bill. The County reimburses the Town and then they collect the money from the property owner.

Councilman Panico said, “We are cleaning up neighborhoods, raising property values and giving people the quality of life they deserve. Our work will continue until we can declare that all such homes are gone.”

To report a “Zombie House” in the Town of Brookhaven, please call 631-451-TOWN (8696) or go to www.brookhavenny.gov.
