Free Residential Waste Disposal Week Results in Over 800,000 Pounds of Safely Disposed Material

Farmingville, NY - Brookhaven Town’s Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management has announced that the results of the free Residential Waste Disposal Week which was held from April 22 to April 27. Nearly 2,500 Brookhaven residents and property owners participated and disposed of over 800,000 pounds of household items, yard waste and recyclables free of charge at the Landfill Drop-off facility in Brookhaven.

The totals are:
Rubbish: 588,260 lbs.
Concrete, Tile, Brick: 51,460 lbs.
Leaves: 22,080 lbs.
Yard Waste Brush: 122,980 lbs.
Recyclables: 11,400 lbs.

More than 100 participants also utilized the Town’s Household Hazardous Waste disposal facility to safely dispose of common, hazardous household waste items such as pool chemicals; fertilizers; paint thinners and more.

Later in the year, the Town will hold a Free Fall Residential Waste Disposal Week from Monday, October 7 to Saturday, October 12. The Landfill is located at 350 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven and is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon.
