Farmingville, NY –  Recently, Councilman Michael Loguercio (left) joined more than 300 students from the Longwood School District to clean up Longwood Road and Smith Road in Middle Island. The two groups included 120 students from Longwood Junior High School headed by Kevin Edwards and 200 students from the Longwood Senior High School National Honor Society headed by Roseann Segura.

The students got an early start on the Great Brookhaven Clean Up, which was held on May 20 when more than 3500 people participated at locations throughout Brookhaven Town. The Great Brookhaven Clean Up was co-sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven’s Department of Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful, Inc. It is part of a national effort that draws nearly 2.5 million volunteers in more than 15,000 communities across America who came together to pick up litter, renew parks, and clean miles of roadway, rivers, lakes, and seashore.
