Brookhaven Highway Department Executes Inter-Municipal Agreement with Comsewogue School District

Comsewogue School District Plant/Facilities Manager Stephanie Popky meets with Brookhaven Highway S

Coram, NY –  The Brookhaven Town Highway Department recently entered into an intermunicipal agreement with the Comsewogue School District for the purposes of consolidating services. The agreement encompasses several public works services including, but not limited to, the purchase of salt and sand, the maintenance and repair of drainage structures, road striping, signage manufacturing and installation, sweeping and pothole repair.

This inter-municipal agreement furthers the Town of Brookhaven’s goal of promoting efficiency between the Town, Villages, and Special Districts through the modernization and reinvention of the delivery of public works services.

“The goal of this program is to work together with local municipalities to identify opportunities where a partnership makes sense and can deliver real financial savings to our mutual constituency,” said Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Daniel Losquadro. “I look forward to identifying additional shared services and consolidation opportunities with the Comsewogue School District, including pot hole repairs, resurfacing, drainage maintenance, salt/sand distribution, upgrading street lights, as well as the use of our new truck wash facility.”

“The Comsewogue School District is pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Brookhaven Highway Department,” said Stephanie Popky, plant facilities manager. “The district is looking forward to utilizing the shared goods and services available through the intermunicipal agreement to help save money for the taxpayers.”

Brookhaven Town was recently awarded a $20 million Municipal Consolidation and Efficiency Competition (MCEC) grant by New York State. This grant is designed to improve the delivery of municipal services while also reducing the burden on taxpayers by reducing redundancy in local governments, pursuing opportunities for increasing shared services, and implementing modernizations and best practices. This partnership with the Comsewogue School District furthers these efforts.
