Town Demolishes Two Zombie Houses in Council District 6

House Demolition

Farmingville, NY -  On June 11, Councilman Dan Panico was on-hand for the demolition of two “Zombie Houses” in Council District 6. Both houses were abandoned and vacant for many years and the source of resident complaints. They were demolished in accordance with Chapter 73 of the Town Code which provides a “fast track” to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures. The cost of demolition and debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner, and the Town places a lien on the property that is then placed on the tax bill. The County reimburses the Town and then they collect the money from the property owners. Pictured is Councilman Panico at 149 Dogwood Road in Mastic Beach (top) and at 112 Moriches Avenue in Mastic (bottom). To report a zombie house, call 631-451-TOWN (8696).

Councilman Panico said, “It was a ‘two-fer Tuesday’ in our continuing efforts to clean up neighborhoods in my Council District and throughout the Town of Brookhaven. By demolishing these two ‘zombie houses,’ property values have already improved in the area, attractive nuisances and blighted structures are gone and the community will continue to rise.”
