Farmingville, NY - On June 9, Supervisor Ed Romaine (right), Councilwoman Valerie M. Cartright (center) and Town Clerk Donna Lent (left) attended the Sunshine Alternative Education and Prevention Center’s 2017 Moving Forward and Graduation ceremony in Port Jefferson Station. The program is an alternative to at-home tutoring of high-risk youth, providing one-to-one social-emotional education, conflict resolution, peer mediations, drug and alcohol prevention and other services. The Supervisor, Councilwoman and Town Clerk congratulated the students for their accomplishments while in the program and for overcoming the difficult challenges that they faced. They also applauded the Sunshine Prevention Center staff for their dedication and efforts to help the youth of Brookhaven Town. The Sunshine Prevention Center is a not-for-profit organization approved by the Town of Brookhaven Youth Agency and the Suffolk County Youth Agency. It is also a BOCES-Arts-in-Education Member, New York State licensed day camp and member of the Prevention Professionals (CPP) recognized through OASAS (NYS Office of Alcohol & Substance Abuse Services).
