Farmingville, NY - On Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3, Councilwoman Jane Bonner, the Town of Brookhaven and 14-year old sisters Cayla and Iris will present the “Beach Bucket Brigade” beach clean-up at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai. The event will be held on both dates from 11:00am to 1:00pm and supplies will be available near the playground area. The program is designed to promote community participation in beach clean-ups and to further educate about wildlife protection and environmentally friendly practices.
Cayla and Iris Rosenhagen are 14-year-old sisters who are nature lovers, avid birders, and conservationists. In the past, they have organized beach clean-ups and now wish to expand their initiatives to reach more community members. At the “Beach Bucket Brigade” event, participants will be given reusable beach buckets to fill with litter found throughout their day at the beach; participants will be rewarded with prizes and environmentally friendly giveaways when the buckets are returned. Community service hours will also be offered to those who participate in the event.
“I am very excited to be working with Cayla and Iris to put together this clean-up. They have shown incredible initiative and are truly passionate about environmental education and conservation,” said Councilwoman Bonner. “We hope that the Beach Bucket Brigade events are a tremendous success in helping to keep our beach clean and safe for all to enjoy.”
Cayla said, “We’re very excited to kick-off our very first Beach Bucket Brigade clean-up. We’re very appreciative for all the support we’ve received from the Town Council, community members, and the eco-friendly companies who have generously contributed to the raffle prizes. Looking forward to a great turn-out and a great day coming together to enjoy and clean-up one of Long Island’s beautiful beaches.”
Iris said, “For as long as I can remember, my sister and I have loved animals and nature. We’re super passionate about protecting the environment and educating others on how they can help. I hope that the Beach Bucket Brigade is a huge success in reaching out to the community and involving all generations. Buckets to borrow for a better tomorrow!”
