Farmingville, NY - The Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau is hosting a free substance abuse awareness and opioid overdose prevention training program on Wednesday, August 7 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Brookhaven Town Hall, located at 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville. NARCAN is a medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose. Residents ages 16 and older from all Brookhaven communities are encouraged and welcome to attend. The training class will be administered by the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD).
Topics covered during the presentation will include:
- What is an opioid overdose?
- Recognizing an overdose (signs & symptoms)
- How to administer nasal NARCAN to reverse an opioid overdose
- What to do until EMS arrives
If you are interested in participating in this program, you must RSVP to the Brookhaven Youth Bureau by August 1 by calling 631-451-8011. After completing the program, participants will receive one NARCAN training packet to take home with them.
