Farmingville, NY - On July 20, Councilwoman Bonner visited Girl Scout Troop 2842 at the community garden they created to fulfil the requirements for their Girl Scout Silver Award. Eve Hald, Jordan Chirvas, Madelyn Knopfke, Victoria Pelosi, and Ashlee Coward created this spot in downtown Rocky Point on Prince Road. Featured are a welcoming bench, painted rocks with inspiring and uplifting words and sayings, and colorful birdhouses.
The Girl Scout Silver award requires a minimum of 50 hours to be spent on creating a project that is sustainable and can be enjoyed by the local community. The Troop wanted their project to assist in the revitalization of downtown Rocky Point by installing a family friendly garden in the downtown area near the farmers market on Prince Road.
Councilwoman Bonner said, “I congratulate the Troop 2842 Girl Scout Silver Award recipients. Their determination, hard work and community service illustrates that they are true examples of what it means to be a Girl Scout. The Rocky Point community now has a peaceful and uplifting destination to enjoy in the downtown area.”
