Farmingville, NY - At the March 1 Town Board Meeting, Councilman Kevin LaValle and the Brookhaven Town Board honored local high school students for their achievements. Sachem High School East student, Ryan Meehan (top photo, center) was honored for being one of 16 high school students selected across New York City and Long Island to participate in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Professor for a Day program. The program introduces gifted high school students to contemporary science in a real-world setting. The program shows students what science involves outside the laboratory, in particular how scientists communicate their work and subject it to peer review. The Centereach High School Cheerleading team (bottom photo) was honored for earning a National Ranking for the first time in the school's history. They finished in 2nd place out of 28 teams in their division at the National Cheerleading Competition at Disney World.

Councilman LaValle said, "It was my pleasure to honor all of these outstanding high school students. It takes hard work and dedication to excel in school academics and competitive activities and they should all be very proud of their great accomplishments."
