Supervisor Romaine and Brookhaven Youth Bureau Host Vaping Seminar for Parents and Professionals

Supervisor Romaine talking

Farmingville, NY - On October 28, Supervisor Ed Romaine and the Brookhaven Youth Bureau held a well-attended Vaping Seminar for parents and professionals at Brookhaven Town Hall. Many people who participated in the seminar work in the field of human services and will use the information provided to educate students about the dangers of vaping.

Representatives from the Suffolk County Health Department discussed facts and myths behind vaping products and how to recognize the various devices and products. The representatives also discussed how to effectively talk to adolescents about vaping, and the methods young people can use to refuse vaping if asked.

Supervisor Romaine said, “It is very concerning that students may think vaping is safer than smoking. However, vaping products have not been around very long, and a lot of health issues could be impacting our youth before medical data becomes available. It is critical for parents, guardians and students to know what the health risks can be.”
