Farmingville, NY - On October 31, Councilwoman Jane Bonner (right) presented more than 50 cell phones to the Town’s Veterans Services Officer Hillary DiPasquale as part of the “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program. This national non-profit organization provides cost-free communication services and emergency funding to active-duty military members and veterans. Residents donated their cell phones at four Brookhaven Town drop-off locations from September 15 through October 15. The donations of devices allow “Cell Phones for Soldiers” to fund its three programs:

Minutes That Matter: Domestic Air Time provides domestic wireless minutes and phones to veterans, military personal and military family members.

Minutes That Matter: International Calling Cards provides free calling cards to troops overseas to help connect to loved ones.

Helping Heroes Homes assists veterans with emergency funds to alleviate communication challenges, as well as physical, emotional and assimilation hardships.

Councilwoman Bonner said, “I thank everyone who took the time to drop off the cell phones. Our military men and women deserve all the help we can give, and this program helps them to connect with their loved ones while they are far off, defending our freedoms.”
