Farmingville, NY - At the November 19 Town Board Meeting, Councilman Dan Panico (fourth from right) and the Town Board honored Girl Scout Service Unit 48 Super Squad from Mastic. The squad was recognized for numerous volunteer and beatification projects throughout the Mastic Beach, Mastic and Shirley communities. A recent project that they undertook was cleaning up the “Welcome to Mastic Beach” sign on Mastic Road that was overgrown and strewn with litter and debris. The girls cut back overgrowth, weeded, removed the litter and debris, put down mulch and painted some rusty poles. Other service projects have included school supply and food drives and garden maintenance at the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Halls in the Tri-Hamlet Community.
Councilman Panico said, “Girl Scout Service Unit 48, Super Squad is appropriately named because they are awesome. These young ladies work with their leaders to clean up the community. They also hold food drives, school supply drives and recently cut back the overgrowth, weeded, cleaned up and painted a dilapidated ‘Welcome’ sign in Mastic Beach. They are truly deserving of this recognition and are off to a great start to being responsible civic minded adults.”
