Councilwoman Bonner’s “Frozen Eagles” Team Raised Over $2,600
Farmingville, NY - On November 23, the Town of Brookhaven and the Special Olympics of New York hosted the tenth annual “Polar Plunge: Freezin’ for a Reason” at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai. More than 800 plungers, including Councilwoman Jane Bonner, braved the cold water of the Long Island Sound to collectively raise over $155,000 for the Special Olympics of New York. Councilwoman Bonner, who led the “Frozen Eagles Team” at the plunge, helped to raise over $2600 for the Special Olympics.

Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “Congratulations to the Special Olympics of New York for another successful Polar Plunge. This event has become a great tradition here in Brookhaven Town and I thank all the plungers, volunteers, Town employees, and first responders for helping these dedicated athletes achieve their dreams.”

“This was my 10th plunge and although it was chilly in the water and out in the cold air, it’s rewarding to know that we are helping these extraordinary athletes reach their goals,” said Councilwoman Bonner. “I commend the Special Olympics of New York, the volunteers and my fellow plungers for making this year’s event a success and allowing dreams to come true for the athletes.”
Special Olympics New York, Long Island Region has 4,000 athletes training and competing year-round in 22 Olympics-style sports. The athletes and their families or caregivers are never charged to participate. It costs $400 to support training and competition for one athlete for one sports season.
