Supervisor's "Greening Brookhaven" Program has goal of 10,000 trees planted by 2020
Farmingville, NY - On Friday, April 21 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (or while supplies last), Supervisor Ed Romaine and the Town Board will be at Town Hall to celebrate Earth Day (April 22) by holding a "Free Tree, Mulch and Compost Giveaway" as part of his "Greening Brookhaven" initiative. The goal of the initiative is to distribute and plant 10,000 tree seedlings by 2020, the same goal date for the Supervisor's Green Energy and Sustainability initiative for Town facilities. The free tree seedlings, mulch and compost will be distributed on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. Proof of residency is required. Mulch and compost is not bagged, so residents must provide their own containers and load the materials themselves into their vehicles. Town Hall is located at One Independence Hill in Farmingville. Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. - Rose Caracappa Center, 739 Route 25A in Mt. Sinai (residents only)
Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. - Brookhaven Landfill, 350 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven Hamlet (residents and commercial)
Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to Noon. - Brookhaven Compost Facility, Papermill Road in Manorville (residents)
Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Commercial vehicles are permitted only at the Brookhaven Landfill, where a fee of $12 per yard will be charged.
