Town Hires Emergency Replacement Carters, Implements Plan to Ensure Uninterrupted Garbage Service

Town Seal

Farmingville, NY - Brookhaven Town has entered into emergency award agreements with several local companies to immediately provide coverage for garbage pick-up in the seven garbage collection districts affected by the carter who broke their contract with the Town with no warning on New Year’s Eve.

These firms have all previously or currently provided residential garbage pick-up within Brookhaven.

These companies will begin immediately to provide our residents with uninterrupted service. All residents who have regular Thursday garbage pickup should put their cans out curbside this evening.

Because they will be new to these service areas, we ask residents in these areas to be patient as they learn these routes. Please call 451-TOWN if your garbage has not been collected by late afternoon.

Brookhaven Town was served notice at approximately noon on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 that Quickway carting would no longer honor their contract to collect residential trash from the areas they service in Brookhaven, effective immediately. The sudden announcement affected approximately 20 percent of the carting districts within the Town of Brookhaven.

The affected communities include portions of Shoreham, Rocky Point, Port Jefferson Station, Farmingville, East Patchogue and Manorville.

Quickway carting was one year into a multi-year contract where they were the successful bidder for residential refuse and recycling services. The Town of Brookhaven intends to pursue every available legal option as a result of this carter’s unacceptable actions.
