Farmingville, NY - In an ongoing effort to combat drug and alcohol abuse in Town of Brookhaven, Councilman Kevin LaValle has announced a Substance Abuse Education Workshop for Parents. The event, hosted by the Town’s Youth Bureau, will be held on Tuesday, January 28 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Sachem Public Library, located at 150 Holbrook Road in Holbrook. Dinner will be served, and FREE Drug Testing Kits will be available. Funding for the program is provided by a legislative grant through New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle.
Topics covered during the program will include:
- Adolescent behavior and drug development
- Why adolescents experiment with drugs
- Current trends in adolescent drug use
- How to talk to adolescents about making healthy decisions
“This is a very timely and meaningful program,” Councilman LaValle said. “It is imperative for parents to have the tools necessary to talk to their kids about substance abuse and that is what this program provides. I want to thank the Youth Bureau for their efforts to help parents learn how to communicate with their kids about substance abuse.”
A reservation for the workshop is required by January 21. To reserve your seat, please call the Sachem Public Library at 631-588-5024 x257 and use Registration Code SAT367.
