Brookhaven Town Encourages Youth to Participate in Unity Day 2020 at SC Community College

Farmingville, NY - On January 14, Unity Day 2020 will be held at Suffolk County Community College’s Michael J. Grant Campus, located on Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood. Unity Day 2020 is a chance for students to learn the value in building communities of peaceful coexistence. Representatives from the Town of Brookhaven’s Division of Youth Services will be present at a table to provide information about services offered by the Town. Unity Day 2020 is open from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Unity Day 2020 is sponsored by the Center for Social Justice and Human Understanding, Inc., Suffolk County Community College, the Suffolk Human Rights Commission and the Suffolk County Inter-faith Anti-bias Task Force. Enrollment is open to the first 400 middle and high school students from Suffolk County who register. Admission is free and students are asked to bring a bagged lunch. There will be a special performance by “El Gritto De Poetas,” a group of diverse LatinX poets dedicated to spreading knowledge about their culture, heritage, and traditions through the art of the spoken word. In addition to the performance, there will be workshops and community organizations present to share their resources with participants.
