Supervisor Reminds Brookhaven About Youth Bureau’s Counseling, Support and Educational Services

Farmingville, NY - Supervisor Edward P. Romaine would like to remind Brookhaven residents about the many programs and services provided by the Town’s Youth Bureau. The Brookhaven Youth Bureau’s mission is to support and encourage the moral, physical, mental and social well-being of youth in Brookhaven Town. This is accomplished by providing services, programs and counseling for young people up to 24 years of age.

The Youth Bureau also offers free and confidential counseling services provided by New York State Licensed Clinical Social Workers to people between the ages of 12 and 24. The services provided by the counselors include:

  • individual and/or family counseling
  • advocacy with community services
  • support and educational groups
  • case management
  • crisis intervention
  • independent living skills
  • housing referrals
  • intervention with runaway and homeless youth.

Supervisor Romaine said, “The Youth Bureau provides information, programs, and workshops that are designed to help youngsters grow today and in the future. I encourage everyone who would like to learn more about the Youth Bureau to give them a call or visit the website. What someone learns today will help them for the rest of their life.”

Support groups/youth programs include:

  • Anger Management
  • Teen Girls Support Group
  • Bullet Journal/Vision Board
  • Stress Management
  • Parent Support Group
  • Red Ribbon Week activities
  • ABC’s of Bullying
  • College and Trade Fair
  • Teen Dating Violence, Awareness and Prevention

Training workshops offered include:

  • Long Island Advocacy
  • Gang Awareness Training
  • Suffolk County Mental Hygiene (SPOA Services)
  • Mental Health First Aid Awareness
  • Narcan Training
  • Human Trafficking
  • Depression, Anxiety & Substance Abuse(in partnership with LICADD)
  • Mindfullness Training

Additionally, the Youth Bureau’s Volunteer Youth Board has been working to provide Brookhaven students with opportunities to showcase their artistic talents. In 2018, the Youth Board held the first “Brookhaven’s Got Talent Poetry Slam” and in 2019 it held the first “Brookhaven’s Got Talent Student Art Show.” Each year the Youth Board also holds the annual Youth Volunteer Awards, where residents are honored for assisting youth in the Brookhaven Community.
