Farmingville, NY – On September 10, Coastal Steward Long Island Board Member David Chase presented Supervisor Ed Romaine, Councilwoman Jane Bonner and Town Bay Management Specialist Craig Strong with Certificates of Appreciation during the 2nd Annual Toast for the Coast event at the Soundview Association Beach Pavilion in Stony Brook. They were honored for their support of Coastal Steward Long Island’s mission to restore and preserve Long Island’s coastlines through education, public awareness and community action.
Supervisor Romaine said, “Coastal Steward Long Island has partnered with the Town on many programs that help protect our shoreline. I accept this honor on behalf of all the people in Town government who are dedicated to preserving our marine environment for generations to come.”
Councilwoman Jane Bonner said, “Protecting the environment is very important to me, and I am proud to be recognized by Coastal Steward Long Island for my efforts. The north shore is my home and I will always be an advocate for environmental conservation of the Long Island Sound and all our waterways.”
Coastal Steward Long Island has teamed up with the Town of Brookhaven for programs to educate our youth and local community groups in coastal environmental awareness through beach cleanups, shellfish population restoration, and citizen science. By engaging with our local youth and communities, they foster a caring connection between Long Island residents and their shoreline, and create future generations of coastal stewards.
