Farmingville, NY - On February 22, Councilwoman Valerie Cartright spoke at Doing Something About It, Inc.’s 2nd Annual Cultural Empowerment Event held at the Boys & Girls Club in Bellport. Doing Something About It, Inc. is a not-for profit organization that collaborates with local communities to create self-sufficient, supportive and unified communities while helping raise low income neighborhoods’ socio-economic status. The event featured keynote speakers, Councilwoman Valerie Cartright and State Senator Monica Martinez, a poetry reading by Laura Proper, dance performances by Alianza Latina Inc. Dance Studio, an educational presentation from Compass Drug & Alcohol Prevention, a play performance from VMR, a hypnotist, a nutrition and wellness educational presentation, incarceration testimonials, local vendors, and a tribute to Robert H. Permenter. The inspirational event highlighted the many active and talented young community members.
