Farmingville, NY - Recently, the 2020 Census reached an important milestone of nearly 80 million responses, which equals more than half of the households in the United States. The ultimate goal is to count everyone accurately while supporting the efforts to protect the health and safety of the public and Census Bureau Team. Every ten years, the US government conducts the Census, which asks a few simple questions of every household across the country. This information is used to decide where and how to spend billions of federal funding dollars and decides how many representatives each state has in Congress. To assist in those efforts, the Town of Brookhaven is participating in the 2020 Census Digital Action Weekend from May 1 to May 3. The primary message is that it’s not too late to respond to the 2020 Census while being safe and practicing social distancing at home.
Once residents have responded to the 2020 Census, they should encourage family, friends, and loved ones to complete the census, too. The Town will utilize several available resources to promote participation, track and monitor the progress of the 2020 Census, including the Response Rate Map and Rankings Dashboard. The Town will also use its social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, the Town website and Brookhaven Cable TV Channel 18, the Town’s government access television channel.
