Councilwoman Cartright to Host Paper Shredding, E-Waste Recycling and Drug Take Back Event

Farmingville, NY - Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Valerie M. Cartright reminds residents that a special E-Waste Drive, Residential Paper Shredding and Prescription Drug Take Back event is scheduled for Saturday, April 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Terryville Fire Department Headquarters, 19 Jayne Boulevard in Port Jefferson Station. This event will allow residents to safely dispose of unused electronic devices for recycling, have their old paper documents securely shredded and recycled, and safely dispose of unused prescription drugs.


E-waste items that will be accepted include:

  • TV's *VCR and DVD players *Computer mice Printers *Calculators *Hard Drives *Electronic typewriters *Circuit boards *Projectors *Camcorders *Laptops *Power supplies *Radios/Stereos *Servers
  • Backup batteries *PDAs *Mainframes *Pagers *Monitors *Routers *Telephones *Scanners *Cell phones *Answering machines *Hubs *Modems *Fax machines *Keyboards *Copiers *Cables
  • Gameboys and other hand held electronic toys


Documents brought in for shredding will be dumped into a 65-gallon container and then into the shredder, enabling residents to witness the secure destruction of sensitive papers. Paper should be brought in boxes or bags. Documents can also remain stapled together, but paper clips and other metal must be removed, along with any other contaminants such as rubber bands. The Pharmaceutical Take Back will accept any and all prescriptions and over-the counter medications. By safely disposing of these items, residents will help keep unwanted medications out of the hands of children and out of our groundwater. For more information, call 451-TOWN (8696).
