Farmingville, NY - The dream of homeownership has become a reality in Mastic Beach. The Town of Brookhaven partnered with the New York State Attorney General’s Office, the Suffolk County Landbank Corporation and the Long Island Housing Partnership to make it happen. The sale of the home was finalized on Friday, May 22.

Both Brookhaven Town and the Suffolk County Landbank Corporation received grant funding through the New York State Attorney General’s Office to rehabilitate the home and turn it into affordable housing. The Town and County both worked with the Long Island Housing Partnership to find a qualified homebuyer.

“The funding we received provides an opportunity for Brookhaven Town to invest in our most valuable asset, which is our residents,” Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine said. “This is an excellent example of many levels of government working together to improve, rehabilitate and revitalize our communities, while making the dream of homeownership a reality.”

Deputy Supervisor, Councilman Dan Panico said, “The community of Mastic Beach is on the rise. This cooperative effort is another step towards the realization of its enormous potential.”

New York State Attorney General Letitia James said, “In order to meaningfully address the issue of affordable housing we need to work together across all levels of government and that’s exactly what we did in Mastic Beach. This grant provided the resources for local leaders and community organizations to effectively meet their unique housing needs and make homeownership an attainable reality for the community.”

Legislator Rudy Sunderman stated “I would like to thank the Landbank and the hardworking employees of Suffolk County for spearheading this purchase. I would also like to thank the Town of Brookhaven for their partnership on this property. As we continue to work closely together on these zombie homes, we are helping to revitalize the community as we continue to focus on quality of life issues during these challenging times.”
