Brookhaven Restricts Activity at Ocean Beaches Due to Rough Surf Conditions

Farmingville, NY - Brookhaven Town has implemented red flags at the Town’s three ocean beaches, prohibiting swimming at Davis Park, Ho Hum Beach and Great Gun and access to the water will be restricted to water below the knees. Water conditions in the area are experiencing an aggressive East sweep in advance of Tropical Storm Isaias. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Long Island.

The Town has also announced that all beaches, pools and sports programs will be closed on Tuesday, August 4 in anticipation of Tropical Storm conditions. Town officials are also contacting all Meals on Wheels program participants to ensure they have food on hand and will make additional deliveries of meals in advance of the storm as needed.

The Town of Brookhaven Highway, Waste Management and Parks Departments are in the process of clearing storm drains and clearing weak limbs and trees. They are also taking steps to ready our equipment to address storm related issues, should the need arise.

All Town residents are encouraged to sign up for NY Alerts, an Emergency Alerting System at This system will allow our Department of Public Safety, Office of Emergency Management to send targeted and general messages to residents. NY Alerts is used only for emergency messages from our Office of Emergency Management before, during and after an event.
