[ARCHIVED] Dress for Success Brookhaven Moving Women Forward Through COVID-19 Expands Online Services

Farmingville, NY - The Town of Brookhaven Division of Women’s Services and Dress for Success Brookhaven are moving forward in innovative ways to ensure our clients’ needs are being met without disruption. We have mobilized quickly to introduce remote opportunities in the coming months that will help provide economic stability for our clients. During these unprecedented times, we have streamlined our programming to meet the unique needs of women and their families in our community.

We are pleased to announce an expansion of our Virtual Suitings for clients. Please call to make an appointment and note that all suitings will be curbside pickup at our Farmingville, NY location.

Our newly created Virtual Career EDGE Job Readiness Program, will offer exceptional programming designed to assist women seeking employment or a better job. This program is offered free of charge to women in Brookhaven Town. By creating a cutting-edge resume and cover letter, learning strategies to succeed in today’s job market, participating in mock interviews, working with a mentor and learning to polish your interview skills, participants will be prepared to confidently present their best self to potential employers. All participants will be offered the opportunity to receive career clothing for their interview and new job! Virtual Career EDGE classes to begin Wednesdays; September 16, 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2020. Register online now.

We are offering weekly ZOOM classes, free of charge, and continue to provide information about unemployment benefits, healthcare options, health concerns and safety tips during these challenging times. Dress for Success is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the developmental tools necessary to thrive in work and in life. Established in 1999 with the support of the Town of Brookhaven, the Division of Women’s Services and more than 50 volunteers, Dress for Success Brookhaven has been instrumental in helping more than 6,000 women achieve their goal of becoming self-sufficient and economically independent.

About Dress for Success
Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help clients find jobs and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit prior to a scheduled job interview and when employment is achieved, a week’s worth of professional clothing is provided. Brookhaven was the first affiliate established as part of the worldwide non-profit organization. The women we serve come from across Long Island. They are job ready women who have been referred by over 250 local non-profit organizations, including domestic violence agencies, veterans’ organizations, homeless shelters and job training programs. The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
