Farmingville, NY - On Saturday, August 15, Councilwoman Jane Bonner was at Heritage Park in Mt. Sinai to serve as a witness to Rocky Point resident Cory Macellaro’s attempt to beat the Guinness World Record for the most alternating one-handed claps in one minute. Upon review of the audio and video captured during Cory’s attempt, his one-minute total was 853 claps (over 14 claps per second). His achievement was 168 above the former record of 685 set in June 2019 by Hassan Alghazali from Baghdad, Iraq. The alternating one-handed claps were counted by slowing down the audio and video and reading the waveform. The number was triple checked using different methods. According to Guinness, it could take as long as 12 weeks to review the attempt and officially declare Cory the current record holder.
Councilwoman Bonner said, “This was my first time serving as a witness to a Guinness World Record attempt and I must say it was very exciting to be a part of Cory’s big day. I thank him for including me and wish him well as he awaits the results of the official review.”
