[ARCHIVED] Brookhaven Town Provides Baymen with 50,000 Seed Clams for Bellport Bay

Town Seal

Farmingville, NY - Brookhaven Town recently provided the Brookhaven Baymen’s Association with 50,000 seed clams for planting in Bellport Bay. Brookhaven Town operates one of Long Island’s largest municipal shellfish hatcheries in Mount Sinai Harbor, growing more than 2 million oysters and one million clams at the facility. These shellfish are planted in bays and harbors throughout the Town when they reach maturity to help clean local waters and revive local fisheries.

Pictured with the seed clams are (left to right) Town Councilman Michael Loguercio, Bob Murray of the Brookhaven Baymen’s Association, Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Supervisor Ed Romaine and Craig Strong, Brookhaven Town Bay Management Specialist.
