Farmingville, NY - On October 3, Councilwoman Jane Bonner (left) joined the Houck family (Paige, Joseph, Kate and Joe) and more than 70 residents during the “Turn the Tide on Trash” event at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai. Sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven, International Coastal Cleanup and the Ocean Conservancy, “Turn the Tide on Trash” is a program that supports volunteers in the clean-up of our oceans, bays and harbors. Overall, 30 bags of trash and a discarded boat seat cushion were collected by the volunteers with the most common litter being cigarette butts, balloons, fishing line, hooks and plastic bottle caps. Councilwoman Bonner said, “Turn the Tide on Trash was a great opportunity for concerned residents to come out and help remove trash from the harbor and beach. I was happy to meet the volunteers and thank them for taking the time to help clean up Cedar Beach.”
