Coram, NY – Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro and Councilman Neil Foley have announced the completion of two paving projects in Patchogue and East Patchogue. The first project included the resurfacing of Barton Avenue, Fish Thicket Road, Hewlett Avenue, Robinson Avenue, Saxton Street, and the North Service road of Sunrise Highway from Hospital Road to the West Dead End.

A substantial amount of concrete improvements were completed in this area, prior to the milling and paving of the roadways. Crews installed 6,464 square feet of concrete sidewalk, 2,382 square feet of ADA-compliant handicap ramps, 4,473 linear feet of concrete curb, and 5,373 square feet of concrete aprons at a cost of nearly $380,000. The Highway Department strategically completed the resurfacing of the roadways last month, prior to school reopening, to be as minimally disruptive as possible to teachers and students commuting to Saxton Middle School. The total cost for this paving project was approximately $1,015,000.

In the second paving project, eight roadways in a residential neighborhood in the vicinity of Barton Elementary School were resurfaced. In-house crews inspected drains and made concrete improvements before the resurfacing of Bambie Lane, Henry Place, Jasper Avenue, Lucy Court, Nicole Court, Patricia Lane, Richard Court and Tremont Avenue. The total cost for this paving project was $232,682.

Superintendent Losquadro said, “Both of these paving projects were located in and around school zones. The newly resurfaced roadways now provide a smoother, safer ride for those traveling to and from the schools as well as all motorists and pedestrians.”

Councilman Foley said, “Barton Avenue is a very busy road and now that children are back at school, there’s even more traffic. I thank Superintendent Losquadro and the men and women of the Highway Department for the important job that they do paving roads and making them safer throughout the Town.”
