Farmingville, NY – Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Daniel Losquadro and Councilman Kevin LaValle will host a free child safety seat check on Monday, February 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Centereach Fire Department, 9 South Washington Avenue, Centereach, NY 11720.
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, along with certified technicians from the Brookhaven Highway Department, will be on hand to inspect car seats and make sure children are riding in the right car seats for their age and size as they grow.
“In passenger cars, child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers,” said Superintendent Losquadro. “Most parents are confident they have correctly installed their child’s car seat, but in most cases (59%) the seat has not been installed correctly. My staff and I are proud to provide this free car seat inspection to teach parents and caregivers how to identify the right car seat for a child’s age and size, and how to correctly install and use their seats.”
“I want to thank the Centereach Fire Department, Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, Highway Superintendent Losquadro and the employees at the Highway Department for working collectively to organize this important event,” said Councilman LaValle. “I encourage all parents to come down on Monday."
Inspections are by appointment only; call 631-363-3770 to reserve your spot.
